Apple Pie

Consistently great apple pie

Equipment

  • 1 pie pan 9"
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 sauce pan

Ingredients
  

  • 8 medium apples granny smith, etc.
  • 1/2 C butter
  • 1/2 C white sugar
  • 1/2 C brown sugar
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1/4 t nutmeg
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 3 T flour
  • 1 T corn starch optional, makes the filling stand up better

Instructions
 

  • Melt the butter in the cause pan
  • add sugar, flour and spices, mix well
  • bring to an "almost" boil, then simmer until thickened a bit
  • Roll out one pie crust and form into the pie pan
  • layer apple slices in pie pan
  • evenly drizzle the filling mixture over the apples
  • Roll out a second pie crust and cover the apple mixture, slicing a few vent holes.
    You can get fancy and create patterns, lattice, etc. or just cover it up. Pinch the crust around the edges.
  • bake at 350F for one hour, or until mixture is bubbling and crust is golden
  • remove from oven and cool
  • serve with a scoop of Blue Bell ice cream
