Grandma's (kind of) Bread Pudding
Family favorite, as close as could be recreated, since no one ever wrote down recipes.
Equipment
- 1 9"x13" glass pan
Ingredients
- 1 loaf dried bread
- 6 large eggs beaten
- 4 oz melted butter 1/2 stick
- 2 C milk
- 1 C sugar
- 1/2 C raisins
- 1 t cinnamon
- 1 T vanilla
- 1/2 t nutmeg
Topping
- 1/4 C brown sugar
Instructions
- Crush the bread into crumbs
- Pour bread crumbs into pan
- mix remaining ingredients together in a mixing bowl
- pour mixture over bread crumbs
- preheat oven to 350 F. This isn't done earlier so the mixture has a chance to soak into the bread crumbs.
- sprinkle brown sugar over the top
- bake for 45 minutes, or until top is golden.
- cool a bit, serve with ice cream.
Notes
Grandma used to hide any kind of edible leftovers in the bread pudding. Old birthday cake, extra pancakes, green beans, etc. This was a good way to make sure there was never any food wasted.
